Gardening by Numbers
In designing for MIFGS 2009 my ideas brought me to the constant referral of mathematical theories behind landscape design. This then took me back to a primary school exercise of thread strung across axis to create a perfect curve and with this in mind my show garden started to develop. The aim was to use this memory in a green space that represents restraint while creating a garden just to be in. A planting palette that suits our dry climate but also adds the seasonal colour, the texture and movement to create a living space that engulfs the focal point and a paved surface creates interest and leads the user to comfort and warmth beneath an arbour. This brings back memories of maths class (hopefully a good experience) while adding structure and balancing the green and the height without overpowering both the garden or the user.
